Aside from labor shortages and run of the mill inflation (which are continuing to impact the cost of HVAC parts and equipment), the new federal regulations taking effect on January 1st are causing HVAC manufacturers to rework their entire product line.
Both heating and air systems are required to meet a new federal minimum SEER rating, and new standards are being implemented on what constitutes proper efficiency. While this change will largely hurt those seeking base or entry level units, manufacturers needing to update assembly lines and other models will be passing on costs to consumers.
